Ohio City Gardeners 6th Annual Garden Tour
Summer blooms abound and their sweet scents fill the air for the 6th annual Ohio City Gardeners Summer (OCG) Garden Tour taking place on Sunday 19 July 2009.
While enjoying the tour, participants will view a variety of gardening styles in eight (8) different Ohio City gardens including several of the club’s members as well as the historic neighborhoods residents. The styles to be seen include English cottage garden, contemporary/urban garden, ‘jewel box’ garden, serenity garden, green/eco-friendly garden to name but a few of them. The owner and ‘green thumb’ of each garden will be present to answer questions about their garden. These questions may range from those pertaining to plant names? where to obtain plants? how to cultivate said plant? landscaping? propogation? and just about any other question that tour guests may have.
The tour will begin at 10:00 AM with tickets available for purchase the day of the event at the first stop 1933 West 54th Street at a cost of $10.00 per person. Ticket sales will end at 3:00PM. This will be a walking tour for those that wish and are able, but all gardens may be seen while driving through beautiful Ohio City.
Beginning this year the OCG club will commence the first year of their annual bulb sale during the tour. This sale will feature bulbs that are particularly successful in Ohio City and Northeast Ohio. Included will be tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and a special Ohio City Garden collection complete with design layout. Also, ‘Ziva’ paper white narcissus and the bright red amaryllis ‘Merry Christmas’ will be available. These may be purchased separately or as a gift package; just in time for holiday gift giving. The sales will begin the day of the tour and run through the month of August. All bulbs will arrive the beginning of October, in time for their fall planting and/or forcing. And all the buyers are invited to attend the October club meeting for a presentation by a Master Gardener on ‘Bulbs in your Garden’. Another feature to be included in the sale is the introduction of the Ohio City Garden Angel fund. Monies raised for this fund will be used to purchase bulbs to plant in various locations of Ohio City to beautify our neighborhood. The first year’s project will be a daffodil planting at the front gate of the Monroe Street Cemetery.
Some refreshments will be available during the tour. As well, some of our Ohio City restaurants will be open for guests the day of the tour to enjoy breakfast or brunch before the tour or a luncheon after the tour.
So come, spend a day visiting the gardens and smelling the flowers of historic Ohio City! We look forward to a beautiful, sunshine filled summer day AND the many faces of you, our tour patrons those returning and those that are new!
